Learn how to rearrange columns quickly in Excel. If you generate a report regularly and it produces the columns in an order you do not like, the instructions below will ease the chore, especially if you include an XLOOKUP to the process.
Steps to Rearrange Columns:
- Insert a new row 1.
- Number the columns in the order in which you would like them to be in the new first row.
- Select the whole table, including the new first row.
- Click on the Data tab
- Click on the Sort button
- Click on Options
- Select “Sort left to right”
- You will notice that “Column” now says “Row”
- Pull down the Sort by menu and select Row 1
- Click OK
You’ve now sorted the columns in the proper order.
